Terms
Membership and orders: the terms
Last updated 25 October 2026.
The plain version of how membership, payments, deliveries and refunds work. Nothing here takes away your legal rights as a UK consumer.
Who we are
The Adventure Box is a small UK business. You can reach us at contact@theadventurebox.uk.
Your account
You need to be 18 or over to have an account. Writing and keeping stories is free. Keep your password to yourself; you're responsible for what happens on your account. You can share your Adventure Box with one other person, who can add stories and photos; you stay in charge of it.
Your stories and photos stay yours. You let us store them, and print them when you ask us to - that's all. Only upload photos you're happy for us to print, and don't upload anything unlawful or anything you don't have the right to share. If someone does, we may remove it or close the account.
Membership
- Price: £21.99 a month, including any VAT, taken by card through Stripe on the day you join and on the same date each month after that.
- Paying yearly: instead, £240.00 a year, taken on the day you join (or switch) and on the same date each year. Your 5 postcards still come each month and your box each year, exactly as monthly. We email you 14 days before each renewal. If you cancel, it runs to the end of the year you've paid for; after the first 14 days a year isn't refunded in part. Yearly is at the standard price only, and doesn't take promotion codes.
- What it includes: 5 postcards printed and posted to you each month, and an engraved wooden box each year. Unused postcards don't carry over to the next month.
- Your first box is made and sent when you join, engraved with the year - or with next year if you join on or after 1 December. After that, a new box is made and sent each January for as long as you're a member. A box isn't made while you're on a break; it follows when you're back.
- Cancelling: you can cancel whenever you like from the Membership page. It runs to the end of the month you've paid for, then stops; we won't take another payment. Your stories stay in your account.
- Taking a break: once you've been a member for 2 months, and not during an offer, you can take a break of up to 2 months instead of cancelling - one a year. It starts when the month you've paid for ends. While you're away we take no payments and there are no monthly postcards or new boxes; postcards you bought or earned stay yours. It picks up by itself on the date you chose, at the usual price, and we email you a week before. You can come back early (a new month starts that day) or cancel instead.
- Offers and free periods: if your membership starts free or at a discount, we'll email you 7 days before the full price begins, with the date and the amount, so you can cancel first if you'd rather not carry on.
- Price changes: if the price changes, we'll email you at least 30 days before it affects you, so you can cancel first if you'd rather.
Postcards and boxes
- We post to UK addresses.
- Postcards are printed and posted second class, usually arriving within 3–5 working days.
- Boxes are engraved by hand and posted by Royal Mail, usually arriving within 7–10 working days.
- If something hasn't arrived, or arrives damaged or wrong, email us and we'll put it right - reprint, remake or refund.
The shop
Extra boxes and extra postcards are paid for once, when you order. Extra postcards are added to your account straight away and don't expire.
Gift Pass
A Gift Pass is a present: 3 months of membership for someone else, including their first engraved box, given as a printed card with a code.
- Buying one: you don't need an account. You pay once, including UK postage, and we post the card to the address you give us, for you to pass on.
- The code works once, for someone who isn't already a member, and must be used within 12 months of the purchase. It has no cash value and can't be exchanged for money. If the guide is lost, email us and we'll help.
- Using it: the person you give it to makes their own account with their own email address, enters the code and gives us their UK address. Their first 3 months of membership cost nothing, with the usual postcards each month. We engrave their first box with the name they choose and the year, and post it to them - it's theirs to keep, even if they cancel.
- After the free months the membership carries on at £21.99 a month, paid by them, unless they cancel first. We email them 7 days before. They can cancel at any time during the free months and won't be charged anything.
Inviting a friend
- Members have a link to share. Someone who joins through it and has never been a member gets their first month free; after that their membership is £21.99 a month unless they cancel, and we email them 7 days before.
- When they pay for their first month, the member who invited them gets 5 extra postcards, which don't expire. Nothing is earned if they cancel during the free month.
- It's for genuine friends: no reward for inviting yourself (the same email, address or card), and at most 10 rewards in any 30 days. Extra postcards earned this way have no cash value.
Changing your mind: 14 days
You can change your mind within 14 days and get your money back, as set out here.
- A new membership: cancel within 14 days of joining and we'll refund your first month in full. The box we sent you when you joined must come back to us first, at your own cost - once it's here, we refund you. Any postcards already posted to you are yours to keep.
- A shop order of a box (or anything else we post to you): tell us within 14 days of it arriving, then send it back, at your own cost, within 14 days of telling us. We refund you once it's back.
- A Gift Pass: tell us within 14 days of the card arriving, as long as the code hasn't been used. We switch the code off and refund the full price - there's nothing to send back. Once the code has been used, the Gift Pass can't be refunded; the person using it can cancel their membership at any time and won't be charged during the free months.
- Extra postcards: we'll refund any you haven't used if you tell us within 14 days of buying them.
How to cancel: email contact@theadventurebox.uk saying what you'd like to cancel. You don't have to give a reason. If you'd like to use a form, the one below is fine but you don't have to.
Returns: send boxes back to the address we give you when you cancel. Please send them back unused and well packed; if one comes back damaged, we may take something off the refund.
Return postage is paid by you. When you change your mind, you're responsible for the cost of sending anything back to us, and we don't refund it. The only exception is when what we sent was faulty, damaged or not what you ordered - then we pay to have it back. We suggest a tracked service and keeping your proof of postage.
Refunds go back to the card you paid with, within 14 days of us receiving what you've returned, or of you showing us proof that you've posted it if that's sooner (or of you telling us, where there's nothing to return). We refund the original delivery charge too, up to the cost of our standard delivery.

Our responsibility to you
We're responsible for loss or damage that's a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or not taking reasonable care. We're not responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable, or for business losses. Nothing here limits our responsibility where the law doesn't allow it to be limited. We look after your stories carefully and back them up, but please keep your own copies of photos that matter to you.
Ending an account
You can close your account at any time - see deleting your data. We may close an account that breaks these terms, after telling you why.
The legal bit
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can bring a claim in your local courts. If we change these terms, we'll update this page and tell you about anything that affects you.
